It is only by getting to the end point and essentially escaping from the game that you win, more or less the polar opposite of a Battle Royale match in which you battle it out to be the last one standing – in this you want to be the first man leaving, only under your own terms not through the aggressive decision of a fellow player or a monster! You might be killed, and if not, all you gain is whatever they are carrying with them (which may not be much) only to have to use it all up, surviving the interest of passing beasts! Avoiding is best – as previously mentioned, sounds attract monsters, and ammunition is a rare resource. You then have to retreat to a pick up point, fighting or avoiding other players as best you can. Once you have killed your monster, you are only half done. This can mean that your first sighting of a monster or villain and your attempts to flee, could send you right into the arms of another even more deadly monster, which will kill you happily within seconds!įortunately, the first fifteen levels are not subject to permadeath, so you will still have all your hard-won loot, weapons and resources (and they are scarce, so use your weaponry with great care) when you respawn until you have had enough practise to be able to survive a decent amount of time without being wiped out. However, it is not as clear cut as all that: following the clues can be tricky, and any noise you make will attract enemies. You are given the precise coordinates to the monster’s location, and you also receive three clues that will bring you to a point where you can defeat them. You spawn into the world with little but your nerve and the basics, and you are given coordinates to your specific target – each player gets a different target that is their mission for the game. The game is set in the 1890s and shows that there were more monsters about then than the grisly serial killer Jack the Ripper! Hunt: Showdown for PC is a first person shooter game in the horror genre in which the player must hunt monsters as he or she battles for survival.
